Domain Name One of the first steps you
should take in order to create your online appearance is to choose
a domain name for your website. The domain name will represent you,
your hobby or business/organization and will give your website a
unique name,
so
your
visitors
will be able to find you easily. Choosing your unique name is an important decision.
Brainstorm with family and friends and try to come up with a name that best describes
the kind of site you hope to present to the world.
Domain Tips Your domain name should be your website name. Choose
a meaningful name, the shorter the better. Every domain
name has a suffix that indicates which top
level domain it belongs to. There are only a limited number of such domains.
For example:
• com -
commercial business
•net -
Network organizations
• org -
Organizations (nonprofit)
We use
bluegravity.com for their domain service. Their
charge is $12.99 a
year for each domain. You may use their
Full Featured Customer Control Panel to make
the payment and sign up for multiple years.
The customer usually tells us the domain they
wish to use. We determine if it is available
and if it is we complete
the domain registration for the customer.
I strongly recommend signing
up for a couple of years
in advance
to make
sure
the
annual
payments are
made in advance. Domain names are
becoming increasingly difficult to obtain since
companies are buying names in bulk, anticipating
a resale at a much higher price.
